AHA (Alpha hydroxy acids)

AHA is an ingredient that helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.

It's great for dry skin because it boosts the skin's natural moisturizing factors (NMFs). It's also helpful for skin that's been damaged by the UV and feels rough.

There are different types of AHA, like Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, and Tartaric Acid. They come in different sizes, and the bigger the size, the slower they sink into your skin. So, even if they don't exfoliate as strongly, they're gentler.

Glycolic Acid is the most researched AHA. It's big enough to get rid of dead skin cells and keep your skin moist. If a product has more than 5% Glycolic Acid, it can exfoliate your skin. But too much of it can make your skin too acidic and cause irritation.

AHA ingredients work fine with retinol or vitamin C. But if your skin is sensitive, using all three together can make your skin irritated. So, it's best to avoid using them all at the same time.
